Oxford welcomes back Saadia, says goodbye to Cathy

The Dental Hygiene program at Oxford College is making a big change, as a long-time faculty member says goodbye, while the college welcomes back another of its colleagues. Cathy Goldberg, the Assistant Director of the Dental Hyigiene program is leaving Oxford College to take on a new role in York Region’s Public Health department.

Cathy was the longest serving faculty member at Oxford College, having been part of its dental hygiene program since it stared in 2003. She remembers when the program was starting that she and others were spending many hours just preparing classes and wondering how many students will the college be able to enroll.

Now, seven years later, Cathy says she is going to miss teaching, especially Dental Hygiene Theory I, which is the “first class that students take that is focused on dental hygiene—the theory behind the instruments they will be using—the students are so excited.” The staff and students at Oxford College will also miss Cathy.

Mohammad Wajiduddin, President of Oxford College, remembers when Cathy started with the college when they first opened. “Cathy was always a very dedicated teacher, and I am happy to have known her all these years,” he says. “I wish her well in returning to public health.”

Taking on the role of assistant program director will be Saadia Choudhry, who is coming back to Oxford College after being away for three years to raise a family. She was another original member of the college when it started seven years ago, and had served as the assistant program director. Saadia says of coming back: “I still love it—everything is just as exciting as it was.”

Saadia’s role will mostly deal with handling the administrative aspects of the program. She is excited about the changes to the dental hygiene program: “We had an excellent program to begin with and with everyone’s hard work and dedication it has excelled to new heights.”
